Haute-Savoie:
a must-see destination!
There is so much more to see in France than just Paris or the French Riviera. The Haute-Savoie definitely worth the visit.
Haute-Savoie is a privileged and ideal region for lovers of nature and wide-open spaces. It conceals a rich diversity of landscapes: mountains (including the majestic Mont-Blanc range) valleys, forests, but also lakes and torrents. In any season, it offers a total change of scenery and a wide variety of activities. Come and recharge your batteries for a weekend or a stay, alone, with your partner, your family, in a small group… all the options are possible.
Let the Alps Your Way team organize your stay
and let yourself be guided with confidence in the choice of accommodation, and sports and leisure activities. You are sure to experience a trip 100% at your image and off the beaten track.
We are located in the Chamonix valley but we can organize a combined trip between mountains and cities with a getaway to Annecy, a beautiful lakeside city, and Yvoire, for example. Chamonix of course is a famous city for its stunning mountain views and sport activities. The first winter Olympics were organized in Chamonix in 1924.
The town of Saint-Gervais les Bains is to be discovered.
Saint-Gervais has been a touristic town for a long time, especially since the opening of the Thermes in 1806. Very active, it is possible to practice many sports, as well as cultural and tourist activities. The architecture of the buildings, a blend of Art Deco and Modern Art, deserves attention. The Baroque route allows you to visit the numerous Baroque churches and chapels.
Saint-Gervais les Bains has many accommodation and dining options where gastronomy is in the spotlight, suitable for all budgets.
The village of Saint-Nicolas de Véroce (where I live!) is worth visiting.
It is located 7 kilometers above Saint-Gervais. It’s a small authentic village with a breathtaking view of the Mont-Blanc massif. Its church is a jewel of Baroque Art.
From reasonable to luxury travel, you will experience exceptional moments there.
For those wondering what to do in the Alps and around Chamonix, here are some examples of activities.
Your winter vacations:
For ski and snowboard fans,
The Evasion Mont-Blanc ski resort links the Saint-Nicolas de Véroce, Saint-Gervais les Bains and Megève ski resorts. More than 400 kilometers of ski slopes and 107 ski lifts with always a breathtaking view on the Mont-Blanc massif. The resort is particularly suitable for families. You can also practice cross-country skiing and ski touring. If you wish, we can organize ski lessons with a private instructor.
There are all sorts of activities besides skiing:
snowshoeing, dog sledding, sledding, visits to remarquable places such as the Aiguille du Midi, the Mer de Glace, the Alpine Museum, watching a hockey game or learning curling!
Your summer vacations:
Looking for sports vacation?
In Haute-Savoie, your are at the right place:
- Go hiking on the paths to discover the flora and fauna. Whether you are an experienced walker looking for long hikes and elevation gains or just a lover of mountain pastures, you are sure to find circuits to suit you. So grab your backpacks, poles and hiking boots and let Alps Your Way advise you.
- Cycling is booming, especially the electric mountain bike which makes it easier to swallow the slopes. You will find electric or mechanical mountain bike rentals without difficulty (see our “Ressources” page https://alpsyourway.com/ressources). Ask us about the best tours and supervised outings. Thrill-seekers can indulge in downhill biking by taking advantage of the ski lifts for the ascent and equipped downhill circuits.
- Mountaineering and climbing are of course the flagship activities of the Chamonix valley. Who has not dreamed of making the mythical ascent of Mont-Blanc? Even if you are a novice, you can enjoy the unique experience of being in high mountain, have a good adrenaline rush and the satisfaction of reaching your peak. Alps Your Way has selected experienced guides for you who will offer you courses adapted to your desires and your abilities.
- Among all the other activities available, you can enjoy breathtaking views during a paragliding flight in front of Mont-Blanc or in a ultralight helicopter and fly over magical places, practice whitewater sports such as canyoning and rafting.
Looking for active vacations?
You can enjoy the Chamonix region even if you are not an athlete. Thanks to the infrastructures, you can experience the sensations of being in high mountains and a total escapism in the great outdoors. We invite you to visit the most beautiful sites and enjoy breathtaking landscapes: take the cable car to the top of the Aiguille du Midi (3842 meters above sea level) from where you will enjoy a 360 ° view of the Mont-Blanc massif and the Aiguilles de Chamonix, face your fear of heights by taking a Pas dans le vide (a glass box suspended above a 1000-meter void) or take the cogwheel train to see the famous Mer de Glace glacier. Another way to experience the spirit of the mountains is to take the Mont-Blanc Tramway to the Nid d’Aigle where you will enjoy an exceptional panorama and share the first steps of the climbers leaving for the summit of Mont-Blanc by the Normal Route.
Don’t hesitate to come to Haute-Savoie outside the most touristic periods, in spring and autumn. These two seasons have a lot to share. Fall is even my favorite season. In spring, it is possible to go cross-country skiing, in the Vallée Blanche in particular, but also mountain biking, climbing, hiking, … In autumn, you can benefit from the pleasant weather conditions and enjoy the peace of places which are crowded during summer like the Tour Mont-Blanc trail.
